The Button House

To illustrate this book with a red button as the main character, I chose a mixed technique of collage, sewing and embroidery. Of course, the buttons were real!

On an MDF wood board, I made the texture with acrylic putty and painted with acrylic paint. After that, I glued buttons, fabric, loops, measuring tape, well pretty much everything you can find in a craft store. I also glued some pictures of seamstress shop counters.

This book was the winner of the 17th “Fernando Pini” award of Graphic Excellency, in the children’s book category, in São Paulo, São Paulo, 2007.

Illustrations from this book were exposed in the 6th “Traçando Histórias (Creating Stories)” – Children’s Literature Illustration exhibition in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, 2008.
